Reebok CrossFit Open

Posted by Liz J. on Jul 10th 2017

With only 6 days left until the Open, CrossFitters all over the world are waiting anxiously for the announcement of the first Open Workout. On Thursday, February 27th at 5 pm PT, the first of five workouts will be announced by Director of the Games Dave Castro from CrossFit North Atlanta. Immediately following the announcement, there will be a head-to-head competition between two athletes who will set the score to beat. From there, thousands of athletes across the Globe will have until Monday, March 3rd at 5pm PT to submit their validated attempts.

The Open is the first of three stages in the Reebok CrossFit Games. There is no limit to the number of attempts that a competitor can submit, as long as it is submitted by the Monday night deadline each week. The workout can be judged in person at a local affiliate, or they can submit uncut, unedited video evidence of their performance to the entire community. Competitors that make the Top 48 Fittest Men or 48 Fittest Women, and the top 30 teams from each region will be invited to the Regional stage.

The Open Workouts are not announced until the week submissions begin because the CrossFit Games are designed as a true test of fitness. Participants are not allowed to prepare for the workouts the way that someone would train for a triathlon or for the Super Bowl. The Games are designed so that you must be all-around fit in order to stand a chance. Competitors do not train by focusing on a few abilities or areas, and instead they must be able to meet any challenge that is thrown at them.

Here is an example of the Open Workout from the first week of the 2013 Games:
